Seth Wilcock with the Wilcock Team has been in mortgage origination since September 2010 (the height of mortgage reform). A lot of people would say that this was the worst time to get into the mortgage industry, but Seth would disagree. In many ways, it was the best time because it was impossible to carry any bad habits into mortgage lending. Seth only knows how to do business the right away.
Between 2010 and 2013, Seth worked for several other highly successful loan officers, and some that were new to the business. During the first three years of his carrier, he helped originate all varieties of loans, ranging from down payment assistance to Jumbo, and first-time home buyer loans to seasoned real estate investors. The very first three years were essentially an MBA in mortgage lending. During those first three years, Seth was essentially trying to learn as much as possible, from as many different people as possible. He saw loan officers do business the right way, and the wrong way. Working on so many different types of loans and spending time with various loan officers from different walks of life made him a well rounded and educated loan officer.
Eventually, Seth came to the realization, that he was constantly having to restructure loans for many of the loan officers he was working for. He had an eye opening experience and asked “Why am I constantly putting other loan officer’s clients into better loans? Isn’t this their job?” After restructuring deal after deal, and saving many clients tens of thousands of dollars on their home loans after they received bad advice, he decided to step out on his own.
In November 2013, Seth decided to exit the loan officer associate role, and become a full-time loan officer. By the end of 2014 (Seth’s first full year as a full-time originator), he helped 23 families and funded $6 Million in residential loan volume. In 2015, Seth formed the Wilcock Team at NOVA Home Loans, helped 48 families, and funded $14 Million in loan volume. In 2016, Seth hired his first full-time loan officer associate and helped 93 families while funding nearly $26 Million in loan volume. In 2017, Seth helped 94 families and funded $31 Million in loan volume.
High-performance growth (like that mentioned above) in the mortgage origination business is unusual, especially considering this growth has been purely word-of-mouth referrals.
