Doug King is a CFP® professional who has spent over 37 years in the financial services industry helping families across multiple generations and successful entrepreneurs reach their long-term financial goals and dreams.

He is passionate about helping his clients solve complex financial needs through comprehensive financial planning, customized asset allocation strategies, tax and estate planning, and sound investment advice.


Doug earned two bachelor’s degrees, in finance and management, from Virginia Tech and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. He completed his CFP® certification in 1989 from the College for Financial Planning and he previously served as the 2021 Chair of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) and he serves on the board of the Northern Star Council of the Boy Scouts of America.


Doug has been married over 36 years to his wife, Katy, and has four adult children who work jointly at Oakwood in various capacities. He is an avid outdoorsman and loves hunting, fishing, canoeing, hiking, motorcycling, scuba diving, golfing, and snowboarding.

 

Brandon D. King

Brandon King comes from a strong retirement planning background. After working in the financial services industry for over 8 years, he discovered a passion for helping others meet their financial goals. Brandon has spent a majority of his professional career as a Sr. Retirement Consultant at Allianz Life. In his role, Brandon assisted financial professionals in developing retirement strategies in order to help their clients meet their long- term financial objectives.

Eager to diversify his professional career and skill set, Brandon has earned his Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and obtained his Certified Financial Fiduciary®, Series 7, 63, 99, and Minnesota Life insurance licenses. Brandon intends to further his designations and knowledge of the financial services industry.


When he is not working, Brandon enjoys biking, rock climbing, and a variety of other outdoor activities. He also enjoys spending time with friends, family and his fiancé, Miranda.

Katy King is an entrepreneur and a co-owner of the Oakwood Capital firms. With a background in business, education, and fashion, she also runs a boutique business called Katy Lee Couture that designs and manufactures custom women’s clothing.

 

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech, specializing in Marketing and Fashion Merchandising Education. Before transitioning fully into business, Katy was a tenured teacher, where she taught Marketing Education and Fashion Merchandising, inspiring countless students with her industry knowledge.

 

Katy has been married to Doug King for over 38 years. Together, they have four adult children who actively contributing to Oakwood Capital in various capacities. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, boating, skiing, and sewing.

Trent is head of operations at Oakwood Capital Partners with a passion for detail-oriented work and process improvement. Trent has spent his years working in the financial industry, focusing on streamlining processes and ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities.

 

As a Montana State University graduate with a degree in finance, Trent has a strong understanding of financial planning and management. Trent's primary responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and overseeing the company's technology systems.

 

In his free time, Trent enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities including snowboarding, skateboarding, fishing and hiking. He also enjoys going to sporting events and spending time with friends and family.
