What was it that led you two into estate planning?
Ultimately, it was a love of people. Helping people protect and care for their families after they are gone is really what drives us.
What kind of estate planning do you favor?
We have done over 12 thousand plans and primarily favor the use of revocable living trusts as a proven way to protect families from probate and death taxes.
Why do you favor revocable livings over regular wills?
Wills take people through probate. A revocable living trust avoids the probate process. We give public seminars and classes throughout the state to educate the public on the use of these trusts.
Where do you see your practice in the future?
We will continue to use revocable living trusts as the cornerstone of our planning but are now focusing on more than just probate and taxes. We are also focusing on nursing home planning and have developed techniques to protect people’s hard earned assets from the devastating effects of a nursing home stay. We are also focusing on divorce protection and lawsuit protection, and are helping people leave a legacy of values as well. We are developing ways our clients can integrate into their planning, letters, bereavement services, even DVDs of their lives to share with their children, grandchildren and generations to come. We are very grateful to all our clients who have given us this opportunity.

Five Star Professional, as a third-party research firm, administered a survey, by mail and phone, to 1 in 4 high-net-worth households (over 112,000 households) and registered financial services representatives (over 16,500 financial services professionals) to evaluate the approximately 28,000 wealth managers in Connecticut (includes Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, and Windham counties in the state of Connecticut). The evaluation was based on nine criteria, including customer service, integrity, knowledge/expertise, communication, value for fee charged, meeting of financial objectives, post sale service, quality of recommendations, and overall satisfaction. After review by a panel of local industry experts and a review of regulatory history, Five Star Professional determined the final list of 2011 Five Star Wealth Managers scoring highest in overall satisfaction and representing less than 7% of the wealth managers in Connecticut.
• Five Star Wealth Managers do not pay a fee to be included in the research or the final list of Five Star Wealth Managers.
• Only wealth managers with more than five years of experience in the financial services industry are considered.
• The overall evaluation score of a wealth manager reflects an average of all respondents and may not be representative of any one client's experience.
